Astrological Update ~ October 2011

September 29th, 2011

This October we are in for a truly emotional, yet transformative month with three personal planets moving into Scorpio, plus having the New Moon there as well.

When Venus moves into Scorpio on Oct. 9, for the entire month, watch out for high passion, sex and romance.  Reactions to personal relationships may tend to be emotional and your desires intense.  Mercury joins her for the rest of the month on Oct. 14th, giving us profound insights to pressing issues, but watch how you phrase your words, as they may be too direct or sharp.

On Monday Oct. 24th the Sun moves into Scorpio and will be a good time to hone your creative use of will.  Plunge deeply into all that you do. Release and transform old patterns of behavior into new ones.

The Aries Full Moon is conjoined with Uranus and squared by Pluto on Oct. 12th, so expect the unexpected in your emotional nature, actions and the world around you.

The New Moon on Oct. 26th at 3 degrees Scorpio this month is a mixed bag with Jupiter opposing it at 5 degrees Taurus, and Sextiling Pluto at 5 degrees Capricorn. This configuration urges us to begin a new life cycle by not getting carried away when new opportunities come your way. Make sure you give yourself a reality check so you can deliver what you promise. With Pluto in the mix, you should be able to curb your desires for over eating and use your creative imagination and will to improve affairs in both your business and home life. It’s a good time to clean out a closet and find new uses for old possessions. The key words are renew, release and transform.

Ancient Wisdom Tid Bits

September 3rd, 2011

Late summer and early fall are perfect times to harvest the remnants of your kitchen gardens, prepare the ground for winter and in the South, plant your fall garden.

It is the time of the Harvest Moon, (the closest full moon to the fall equinox), and this year it falls on September 12th.  In generations past farmers used this moon to continue bringing in their crops long after the light of the sun vanished because there isn’t a long interval of darkness between the sun’s setting and the moon’s rising.  This phenomena is possible because the Earth’s ecliptic plane around the sun, makes a narrow angle with respect to the horizon at this time.

When a farmer’s crops were bountiful, it was said to be a Cornucopia or a harvest of plenty.    Although here in the US we usually associate this word with Thanksgiving, it’s usage dates back to Greek mythology in the 5th century B.C.

The myth originates with the infant Zeus being fed by a goat and when Zeus grew up, he broke off one of the goat’s horns and declared that it would be always be filled with whatever it’s owner wanted.  Thus began the idea of Cornucopia. However the modern word derives from two Latin words.  “Cornu”, meaning horn and “copia” meaning plenty.

Last week when I sat down to read one of my favorite magazines, World Explorer, I thought wouldn’t it be nice if I shared it with my readers, because it covers lot’s of esoteric and ancient discoveries.  So for those of you who are interested in ancient and indigenous wisdom, this may be the magazine for you.  Publisher, David Hatcher Childress is a true explorer of many lost ancient cities, and odd phenomena and has written more than a few books on these subjects. To wet your appetite, this month’s issue features “The Great Pyramid Pump”, “Crystal Skulls”, “The Mystery of the Jade Gong” and “Agartha, 2012 and The New Era”.  I especially liked the last one.

Astrological Update: September 2011

September 3rd, 2011

The month of September is packed full of surprises.  Below are some of the highlights.

You may find yourself wondering what your true purpose in life really is this month, as Jupiter turns retrograde on August 30th and remains there until November 2nd. This planetary action may also have a dramatic effect on your  dreams, so pay close attention to their meanings.  With Jupiter Retrograde you may also see opportunities knocking at your door from ground work you may have planted during the last nine months when Jupiter was direct.

Continue your deep innerwork on Monday, September 12th as the moon becomes Full in Pisces, or use your heightened sensitivities to create something new in the material world or the romance scene.  However, be careful not to dip too deeply into partying or you may regret it the next day.

Pluto turns direct on September 16th, helping us to release pent up feelings and issues that have been building since this planet went retrograde in April.  This would be a good time to use flower essences or emotional healing work to mitigate explosive behavior.

This month marks the official end of Summer and the beginning of Fall when the Sun goes into Libra on Friday September 23rd, and we celebrate the Fall Equinox.  Remember this is the time of year when we have equal time for day and night, and the veil between the worlds is very thin.  It’s a good time for ceremony or ritual, or simply turning inward for meditation and contemplation.

We end September with a bang with the New Moon in Libra on the 27th. Here there will be a conjunction of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury, plus a square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus. This configuration will force us to think and feel very differently about our lives and how to take appropriate action when needed. Try and stay harmonized and balanced when chaos knocks on your door.  To encourage real evolutionary shifts at this time, we  all need to boost our courage and confront our fear and emotional  insecurities.

Ancient Cave Art

August 1st, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I watched in awe as I viewed the new documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams by Werner Herzog.  This movie features 32,000 year old cave art found in the cave of Chauvet-Pont’d Arc in France.

What has fascinated archeologists and movie viewers alike is the realistic styling of the ancient artists.  While some are still life, others are seen to depict motion.  As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!  See for yourself on this short clip from UTube.  You won’t be disappointed.

Hummingbird Totem

August 1st, 2011

I love sitting on my porch in the morning before the days heat sets in and communing with my garden and all the creatures who frequent it.  I particularly enjoy watching the hummingbirds forage my flowers for nectar with their little bodies darting around and hovering while they drink their fill.  As long as I’m still they don’t seem to mind me sitting and watching them.

The Hummingbird represents the sense of wonder and awe and show us how to sing out our joy as we go through our daily activities.  Like most flower visitors hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with their hosts, as many flowers would not be here if it were not for their friendly pollinators. The hummingbird can help you find the sweetness in any life situation.  However, if this totem has entered your life, you may want to check your sugar intake.

It’s multi-colored iridescent body is associated with  rainbows and the Fairy Realm.  Take a hint from your hummingbird totem and learn how to play and not take things too seriously.

August 2011 Astrological Update

August 1st, 2011

Mercury Retrograde is here again for three weeks from August 2nd to August 26th.  Remember this is a time to finish up old projects and do inner work.  Watch out for communication mix-ups.

With Mars moving into Cancer for six weeks, look forward to an emphasis on the home, family and emotions.  The first week of August Neptune retrogrades back into Aquarius until 2012, and this brings us gently out of our spirituality, and focuses us back onto the influences of the computer world on humanity and society as a whole.

With the Full Moon on August 13th, opposing Venus while trining  Saturn, lookout for a conflict between your desire for over-indugence in sweets and material goods, and your common sense that guards against such things.  Emotions run high with this Venus position, while Saturn gives you a sense of responsibility in carrying out obligations and the know how of strengthening your endeavors by building on  foundations already in place.

This month the New Moon falls on August 28th at
15 degrees Virgo. This is a good time to begin new projects such as exercise regimens, organizing your closets, doing some inner work, or volunteering for a community project. With the new moon conjunct Mercury at 18 degrees Virgo, and Venus 10 degrees Virgo, you can add to the above suggestions with new ideas of redecorating your home and working on your emotional issues.

Solar Eclipses

July 11th, 2011

Viewed with dread in ancient times, the Solar Eclipse was seen as an ill-fated omen of large-scale events to come in the near future.

Originally taken from the Greeks, the word eclipse means abandonment and was seen in ancient times as the Sun abandoning the Earth.  And many ancient cultures believed that this was a time that the Sun was attacked by demons or dragons.  The ancient cultures of India, China, Egypt, Peru, and Babylon alike warned their people about these times through their mythologies and story telling.

Because Solar Eclipses tend to portray sudden events that come out of nowhere and disrupt our daily lives we can easily understand how the people’s of old interpreted the Solar Eclipse a time of doom.

Totem: Wren

June 30th, 2011

I love the summer because it gives me a chance to beautify my deck, and feed the insect and hummingbird populations with my numerous potted, flowering plants and vegetables.   So a few weeks back I was elated when one of my geraniums became the home of a wren nest.

Wrens are birds that are bold yet resourceful.  In some traditions it is believed that the wren actually stole fire from the Gods.  Being adaptable it will build it’s nest in any convenient place, and to scare off predators they are known to build several dummy nests as well.

The Wren totem’s boldness and confidence comes through in their loud song, as well as, confronting larger birds or animals that come into their territory.

So if the Wren totem has come into your life, some good questions to reflect upon are whether you are using your resources wisely, or if you walk through life with enough confidence.  Are you forgetting to sing your song to the world?  Take a tip from our brother and sister Wren, and learn how to work with their medicine by using what is available in life to fulfill your needs.
